The Free Medical Dictionary defines Massage Therapy well. But to me, its about making the connections. That's when the power of healing becomes stronger.
By coming into physical contact with the musculoskeletal, circulation, lymph and nervous systems, along with a focused concentrated caring effort, a healing environment is created. Things like stress, pain, and anxiety are decreased, and things like flexibility, circulation/lymph movement, and quality of sleep are increased. Massage therapy can be critical in optimizing the treatment of significant ailments like Lock-Jaw, Fibromyalgia, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Cancer, and many more.
Massage therapy can supply immense physical and psychological relief.
Hot Stone Massage: Basalt lava stones heated to around 130 degrees and purposefully applied to the back, neck, arms and legs with light to medium pressure. The heat from the stones are very relaxing, and heat up the tissue for more effective therapy. Areas with high concentrations of fascia, like the ITBand, respond and relax with greater success than with massage alone.
Deep Tissue Massage: Getting under the top layers of skin and fascia to address issues of muscles underneath. this requires medium to heavy pressure and can lead to soreness from aggressive effort. Deep tissue work requires the client to give more feedback during massage, arrive hydrated, and have eaten or have plans to eat soon after the massage. Your muscles will have had the same effect as a workout.
Essential Oils: These are used both topically and as aromatherapy. I diffuse the essential oils into my massage oil and combine certain oils together to create effects like grounding, focus, and relaxation.
Warm Hydrotherapy: Either wet (heated wet towel), or dry (heated rice pack), this mode of therapy is good for isolating areas of pain and or discomfort, relaxing tissue with heat, and prepping the area for more effective massage therapy. It can be combined with CHABA and essential oils for further effectiveness.
